If you look at a single wool fiber under a microscope it has the appearance of fish scales. When the scales are agitated or abraded they start to stand up or have an unsmooth surface just like a fish would. Abrasion creates an uneven surface effect which will then agitate the skin or itch. This is why people think wool is itchy or scratchy. However, Extra fine merino wool sheep are bred to yield a very fine smooth surface fiber. Therefore, resulting in a true next to skin wearable garment.
Care
Do not put any Wilss items in the dryer or wash in hot water. Wool will shrink and it will also damage the fiber and take away some of its natural softness.
